Letting Go
Letting go of that which we cannot control requires awareness and wisdom. What we cannot force to change, what we cannot impact, what we cannot redirect, we must let go. Controlling things in our life may not always be possible. When it comes to human beings I have come to understand we are powerless. We must live our lives for ourselves – choose for ourselves and be willing to move forward alone if need be. Being true to oneself and living honestly and authentically means surrendering illusion of power or control. Letting go does not mean quitting, giving up, giving in – holding on to that which we cannot affect is a waste of energy that can be focused more productively elsewhere.
I have changed in the last year and am continuing to change. I hope that I always will. I understand that believing in the status quo forever is a fantasy and an implausibility. I do believe that if I choose wisely, listen to others carefully, and speak my mind wholeheartedly, I may influence the paths and choices of others but I also know that the choice will ultimately be their own. I can forgo a direction I long for to alter or merge ambitions with another, and I may choose to do just that, but I can guarantee it will be only after lengthy discussion and exploration. Life unravels and unfolds with opportunity and challenges – whom I choose to go forward with is still to be seen.
My children are choosing their own paths now; will they follow the road my mate and I traveled and suggested for them? Who knows? I do not want to tell anyone, not a friend, not my husband, not my kids, what is best for them. I do not know those answers. I have regrown wings long ago clipped lately and I am ready to explore for myself. That feels daunting enough.
I will let go of that over which I have no control. I will continue to look forward, live life in the moment, keep my eyes and ears open and move on.
What do you need to let go of? Where are you standing and what is in front of you?
To let go of what I have no control., wow if it were that easy. I know I have to make choices everyday and some are easier than others. I need to practice letting go. I guess start with the easy and simple things to let go of.such as traffic, I have no control over traffic and I get so upset with it. I will start practicing and being more cognizant. and try to live life in the moment.
What do you have control over? Think about what you can affect and put your energy and thought into that.
